Visit our community through its curiosities and secrets
We know that a different way to program routes prior to a trip or getaway is by marking key points based on curious data or particularities that the destinations you are going to visit may offer. That is why with this article we intend to introduce you to some of the secrets and curiosities of some of our municipalities and natural areas so that you can continue discovering corners and stories of our Commonwealth from an unexpected and surprising point of view.
We start with Tales, capital of the Plana Baja region and headquarters of the Espadán-Mijares Mancommunity, but better known as the town of the musicians "Dolçainers i Tabaleters". The “dolçaina” and the “tabalet” are two of the instruments most deeply rooted in our tradition and the inhabitants of this town are especially proud of having one of the most outstanding schools in this art that has established itself as one of its greatest cultural heritages. Without a doubt, a unique claim to organize a getaway!
Another of the key points that we would like to introduce you to is the old Dominican Convent of Ayódar, an emblematic building that began to be built in 1577, the construction was completed work in 1601 but the convent was demolished in 1950. Today one of the bell towers remains standing which has been declared well of cultural interest and in which you can see remains of its decoration as well as some striking gargoyles.
Not far from here, in the Ayódar fountains, we find El Lagar del Cubo, a unique enclave, typical of medieval times, which served as a wine press and in which the grapes were trodden. In addition, if you dare to visit this enclave, you can also see the recently restored old Molino de Arriba, dating from the 15th century.
Finally, we also want to highlight here the uniqueness of the views of the “Salto del Agua” of Vallat, a phenomenon that occurs when water is released from the old canal of the power station and which makes for a cool photo moment.
Without a doubt, it’s worth getting to know a territory through the enclaves, traditions and anecdotes that are part of it since it is a different way of approaching its history and creating routes beyond the usual ones. Do you dare to give your trip a twist?
