Fanzara, an open-air museum in constant evolution

In 2014 one of the municipalities of our Mancomunidad, Fanzara , hosted an artistic proposal that to this day continues to be a benchmark in urban art both within the Mancomunidad Espadán -Mijares as out of this.

This town, located 32 km from Castellón de la Plana and with just over 280 inhabitants, gave up its houses and architecture and integrated its inhabitants to form part of the Unfinished Festival of Urban Art (MIAU) making its narrow streets even more attractive. It is a project that evolves over time since every year the artists who express their works and talent in Fanzara's urban planning are different, creating large graffiti that surprise the traveler and who even dare to create visual games with the different constructions of the town.

A gallery in constant renovation that allows you to see a different landscape year after year through the walls of Fanzara. In other words, we are facing an open-air museum in constant change that has already more than 170 murals that have changed the physiognomy of the town and sheltering almost more than 75 national and international artists who always participate on a voluntary basis.

One of the maxims of the project is to promote coexistence in Fanzara through art and therefore both artists and neighbors during the days that the festival is celebrated generate a network of volunteers that involves the entire town and creates a total synergy between inhabitants and creators. The artists paint for free and it is the neighbors who organize themselves to give them accommodation and meals. It is not a project to make a profit, it’s a proposal to enjoy. Also the neighbors even understand the initiative as a local party and positively value the admiration that their houses produce in the people who visit them.

Beyond the murals, there have also been other interventions such as tile mosaics, photography on stone or sculptures that still make the catalog and artistic variety of this creative festival more complete and diverse.

And after the excursion to the town, if you still have more desire to tour and explore the area, you can take advantage of all the wooded area and mountain range of pines and holm oaks that surround Fanzara to visit the recreational area of Molino Bota, which has a pleasant natural pool or the Cova de la Mola which can be reached by a hiking route, very pleasant for the walker.
